The June school holidays are coming up, so get planning! While it’s a great time for a longer trip with the family, high demand often means inflated flight prices and hotel bills. We believe parents (and their wallets) deserve a break as much as their kids do this summer, so we’ve done our homework and found the best time to book the most popular school break destinations in June (Did you know that by booking on the right day of the week, you can save up to 33% on your average return flight price?) We’ve also hand-picked three of the most popular destinations: Bangkok, Melbourne and Paris, and share our insider tips for booking these spots.
Now you the fun part is up to you, so get searching before school’s out.
Bangkok, Thailand: The best value destination in Asia
June is a great month to visit the Thai capital: there are fewer tourists and you’ll usually miss the heavy rains of the monsoon season. Plus, it has the all-around best value for both flights and four-star hotels. On average, return flights to the City of Angels in June cost S$187 and a four-star hotel costs S$133 per night. If you get in early and book up to 15 weeks in advance and on a Tuesday, you can save up to 30% on the average flight price.
Top tip: when booking your flights, keep in mind that Thailand’s Amazing Grand Sale runs from 15 June to 15 August, offering discounts on clothes, jewellery and electronics.
Melbourne, Australia: The most affordable long-haul destination
Escape Singapore’s heat and humidity in June and make your way to laid-back Melbourne, the most affordable long-haul destination on our list. Despite the Land Down Under’s reputation for being an expensive travel destination, four-star hotels are only slightly more expensive than in Bangkok.
Top tip: Once you’re in the Victorian capital, take the kids to see some wacky wildlife at Melbourne Zoo and the Sea Life Aquarium.
Paris, France: The best value ultra long-haul destination
The City of Light offers great value for a family summer sojourn. Paris is the most affordable ultra long-haul destination in our top 10 and you can save up to 20% by booking flights up to 20 weeks in advance and on a Monday, versus booking on a Sunday.
Top tip: You’ll love Paris in June – keep an eye out for the many festivals, outdoor events and open-air film screenings.
