How to Eat, Pray Love your way across India
Eat: Savour India’s flavoursome food
India is renowned for serving up some of the most exotic (and spiciest) food in the world. You’ll find an abundance of traditional cuisine whether it be on street corners, at the markets or in little local shops; all which promise to leave your taste buds tantalised. When it comes to delicious food, Delhi has it all – think delicious butter chicken, kebabs and Dal Makhani, among the usual local favourites. To embrace the cultural madness of India, pay a visit to the vibrant Khari Baoli market, which hosts a long street of famously packaged spices from around the world. Vendors prop massive sacks of spices and dried fruit outdoors and will be happy to share with you the origins of these special creations.

Pray: Enliven your inner spiritual self with yoga and meditation
Whilst there are endless adventures and explorations waiting for you in India, it’s also an ideal place to sit back, relax, and practice yoga. For the ultimate yoga experience, stay at the Shreyas Yoga retreat in Bangalore. Said to be one of the country’s most sought-after retreats, you’ll get the unique opportunity to experience a state of calmness and rejuvenation. Whilst you’re there, be sure to take part in chanting sessions, massages and traditional ayurveda treatments. If you prefer to venture out on your own, you’ll find meditation and yoga classes in almost every city in India.

Love: Immerse yourself in India’s fascinating culture
Immerse yourself in India’s rich culture by visiting Bodh Gaya; a world heritage site famed for being the most important Buddhist pilgrimage place on earth. This is the very place where Lord Buddha reached enlightenment, whilst meditating under the Bodhi tree. Next, visit the spectacular Ganges River in Varanasi. The sacred 2,510 kilometres of water flows from the Himalaya mountain range all the way through to the Bay of Bengal. Join the local Hindus who practice the art of yoga along the riverside or take a boat ride along the canal and if, you’re up for it, bathe in the purifying water, which is heard to cleanse and wash away sins.

Eat, Pray, Love… and explore!
Our recommendation for the best Indian tour? Definitely the Golden Triangle. There is so much to see in India and often so little time, so this tour is a great introduction to three of India’s top destinations; Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. You’ll get the chance to see the magnificent Taj Mahal in Agra, Humayun’s Tomb and the Red Fort in New Delhi, and the Pink City and fort at Amber in Jaipur.

Travelling tips for visitors to India
For those who are new to travelling to India, we have a few travelling and safety tips for you to read up on:
- Ensure your vaccinations are up to date and you have packed a full medicine kit.
- Do not drink the tap water- even if it is filtered – and avoid ice, eating from fresh fruit and juice stands in the streets.
- When you arrive, be sure to dress culturally appropriately; loose ankle length clothing and tops that cover your shoulders.
- India is known for its great big festivals which bring large crowds, so try to avoid travelling alone and keeping your personal belongings on your front at all times.
- The best way to get around the country is in rickshaws and taxis, especially in the big city. From the airport, it’s best to book a pre-paid car or organise transportation from inside the airport terminal, reducing your risk of being scammed.
- Allocate plenty of travelling time from Point A to Point B, as traffic in the big cities around India can get rather heavy.
- Watch your stuff! Be careful with your belongings and invest in sling bags or pouches to ensure the safety of your wallet, passport, phone and travel essentials.
